Audio Description

A #relapse is when troubling symptoms of a #mentalhealth difficulty come back or get worse. Relapse can sometimes be unavoidable, but early intervention can reduce how severe it is. There are lots of steps you can take to help prevent or lower the risk of a relapse and to maintain your #recovery. In this video, Edel Fortune, Programme Manager here in St Patrick's Mental Health Services, explores some of the ways you can learn to efficiently monitor your #wellbeing and take action when needed Self-management is an important part of preventing relapse. This involves: - taking medication as prescribed - engaging in aftercare and support groups - identifying your warning signs - taking action - having a relapse plan - seeking outside help when needed. Taking action for your mental #wellness helps to prevent relapse. This can include building healthy coping skills, eating well, taking time to exercise, getting enough sleep, practicing relaxation, growing your healthy thinking skills and building your knowledge. Managing stress is a big part of staying well. Identifying what causes you stress and taking action to solve it reduces the effects on your wellbeing much more quickly. This includes creating a toolbox of supports that will help you with #stressmanagement, and remember to start slowly, practice #selfcare, and cut back on ongoing responsibilties where needed.
