Hi, here are some references and elaborations :) 00:00 江湖 literally means 'rivers and lakes' and refers to the world of martial artists. This song depicts the resentment, gratitude, love and hatred of this world as well as the loneliness felt by the martial artists/ wandering heroes of this world. The lyrics describe the free and unrestrained life that these wanders aim to live as well as their indifference to the complicated power plays of the mortal world, including those of love. The first two lyrics are an example of this. They have experienced the bloody storms and complex relationships of the martial world and in the end have decided to let go of this mortal matters. When people gather, they create trouble for themselves; so why not pursue the free and unfettered life away from the world? It is lonely and empty but brings more peace than the life left behind. When passersby ask about your heroic stories, you feel a level of contempt. After having lived that life, you no longer feel that what the world sees as righteous actions, are truly that just. Yet despite its messiness, you feel sorrow for parting with the jianghu and the bonds that you have formed. (side note, writing this made me think of a quote from a movie adaptation of one of Jin Yong's novels; 'What is the Jianghu? People are the Jianghu. How can you leave?') 00:06 何足言道 means that there is no worth in speaking of something. There is a hint of contempt. It's as if the protagonist has once, like many young people, held dreams of being a hero of the jianghu fighting corruption but after being embroiled in its turmoil, they have grown tired and so when asked of their fights and stories, there is a level of distaste for those mortal affairs. 00:11 苍天一笑 - a smile at the vast heavens 笑不老 - 笑 means smile or laugh, but in this instance it can also refer to 'laugh at' or ridicule something. 不 (no, negative indicator) 老 (old, age). This lyric provides a contrast with the heavens that have not aged, but the protagonist has. Almost self-ridiculing 'look, you have not aged, looking just like you were back then; but I have become old'. Not only as a reference to the physical toll that time that has taken but also the change within. The next lyrics 豪情却会了 seems to describe this change inside; 豪情 refers to a heroic emotion (like the strength to stand up to injustice). Think of those wandering heroes with lofty ideals, going place to place experiencing the world and standing up for the weak. Unswayed by wealth and power, even if they know that the rest of the world may not live the way they do, these martial artists still hold themselves to their values and sworn bonds. 'I have aged, yet I have learnt the true heroic spirit'. (Basically what I felt the lyric was saying, there may be different interpretations). 00:17 'Facing the moon, drinking a cup of loneliness' 寂寥 I translated this as 'loneliness' but it means 'quiet and distant'; 'empty and faraway'. This brings a rather tired aura to the whole song, as if the protagonist is thinking back on the gains and losses of their life (connecting to previous lyrics). 00:28 - 00:31 This part expresses the lonely and individualistic life led by these martial artists. They are like the falling leaves and withered flowers, going wherever the wind blows (hint of sorrow). 'Blades under the pillow' representing their dangerous life. 00:34 汝 means 'thou' but for the sake of English grammar, I put it in the next line. This lyric and the one following it describes the complicated emotions of the protagonist; the sorrow of parting and separation (whether it is between martial artists as they wander from place to place, or the separation of life and death). Despite knowing that separation will come, you still feel pain and reluctance when it happens. 00:39 There is always a lot of mentions of old wine, strong wine when talking of wandering heroes. It's like the wine is used to represent their strong mindset; I sigh of the sorrow of separation, with this cup I drain these emotions are also drunk. Everything that needs to be said are all within this wine. No need to put into words. 00:48 There seems to be two interpretations regarding 黑夜 (literally 'dark/black night'); one is dark night literally, but another is 'night clothes' which refers to the dark clothes worn when... wishing to blend into the night (mainly to do something illegal). So this lyric can refer to 'blades illuminating the dark night' or 'blades illuminating dark clothes' as in light reflecting of blades to reveal figures in black clothes.
